RULES
What do I get for competing in the Kea Series?
- To compete on a series leaderboard with the top athletes in New Zealand, with their best 3 races out of a possible 9 to score points.
- Eligibility to win a share of the Kea Series prize pool
- A guaranteed 20% discount on the race entry fee for all competitors committed to at least 3 events on the series.
- Free entries for up to 10 athletes, based on previous series results and other relevant performances, at the race organiser’s discretion.
- Marketing as an athlete as part of the series on social media and press.
- Product discounts from series sponsors.
- Additional ad-hoc athlete start fees and travel support may be available on a case-by-case basis.
- More benefits to be announced as the series progresses.
How do I enter?
- Athletes will nominate which races they wish to take part in via the entry form. They will then be given discount codes and details from Kea provided by the relevant organisers so that athletes can enter the series races. We hope to be able to provide a more seamless entry process in future, but this is currently a challenge as each organiser uses their own entry portals and systems.
I’m not an elite athlete can I still take part?
Absolutely we are keen to create the best athlete experience possible and include as many people as possible. We are always open to new ideas and feedback for how we can make the series more enjoyable for everyone, and reward the efforts that go into simply completing what are some of New Zealand’s most challenging and demanding endurance events.
How do you qualify for points?
Enter and finish any one of the Kea Series’ 9 constituent races around the country. THAT’S IT! We’ll do the rest as far as counting and tallying up your points across races.
How do you score points?
Up to your best 3 performances in the series will count for overall points.
Points will be allocated as follows based on finishing order as officially published by the race for each gender:
For the first 6 finishers of each gender
- 100 pts
- 90 pts
- 85 pts
- 80 pts
- 76 pts
- 72 pts
Finishers from 7th place for each gender
- 7th to 36th will receive points starting from 70pts for 7th and declining in 2pt increments to 12pts for 36th.
- All Other Finishers will automatically receive 10pts for finishing the race.
How are tiebreakers decided?
Tiebreakers are based on your 3rd best performance, then 2nd best and then best performance in races across the series.
How is the prize pool allocated?
The allocation of the prize pool will be announced shortly and will cover at least the first 6 series placings for Men and Women. To be presented at the grand final in Nelson on Sunday 9th of May 2027!
